The Mountain Goats - The Sunset TreeJohn Darnielle spins an album about a drunken, abusive stepfather, and how it affected his growing up. It borders on singer/songwriter, but also stretches out at times. While the recent Satanic Messiah EP rivals it at times, this stands as my favorite record of theirs.
