Nation of Ulysses - Plays Pretty For Baby

Nation of Ulysses - Plays Pretty For Baby
I guess kinda arty, noisy, politco harDCore. The Dischord sound is there, but it's definitely flipped on its ear.

Make Do and Mend - Bodies of Water

Make Do and Mend - Bodies of Water
HWM inspired band who released this free on the internet, then through a label later. The first two songs are beyond great.

New Jersey pop punk from the late 90s/early 2ooos. You probably know the deal. Lots of John Cusack samples.

Leatherface - Horsebox
Everyone (probably, or should) knows Mush at this point, but here's yet another excellent Leatherface LP. I'm so glad I got to see them at Fest last year.

Today's lunch

Pica's Pizza - Upper Darby LP
Square box, sauce on top, gtfo if you can't get into it. Thin crust, crispy on the corners, and the saltiest cheese you can find. Extra cheese is a must. Makes me bummed my parents moved out of Upper Darby when I was four. Of course, I'd be much fatter if I stayed.

Shook Ones - Slaughter of the Insole EP, Splits with End of a Year and Easel

Shook Ones - Slaughter of the Insole EP, Splits with End of a Year and Easel.
This is kinda a catch all for the lesser-known Shooks records. Slaughter of the Insole is a quick teaser EP with a pretty good Leatherface cover ("Not a Day"), the split with Easel has their best song ("Order Form" and a wonderful Sicko cover ("Bad Year"), and the split with End of a Year (But At Least Your Town Has a Lusty Lady) tricked everyone into thinking their new record would be harder and heavier than it ended up being.

Gray Matter - Food for Thought / Take it Back

Gray Matter - Food for Though / Take it Back
Mid 80s harDCore, so you pretty much know the deal. This is the LP and an EP together.

Melodic, acoustic pop/rock from an ex-member of MU330. Don't worry, no ska here, but plenty of fun!

Punk/post hardcore that used to play with bands like Jena Berlin and Bear Vs. Shark. Energetic and gruff.

Copeland - Beneath Medicine Tree

Copeland - Beneath Medicine Tree
Again, melodic, catchy, textured indie rock. In 2003, if you made a girl a mix tape/CD with "Brightest" on it, she'd love it.

Cursive - Eight Teeth To Eat You
These are the Cursive songs from their split with Eastern Youthm from Japan. While it's only a few songs, two of them stand as some of my top Cursive songs.

Dead Letter Dept - Yes You Can't
Well done pop punk from Canada. Nice dudes who later put out more "indie-ish" records that never did as much for me.

I think this is my favorite Jonah project. Catchy, poppy indie rock.

Roadside Monument - Eight Hours Away From Being a Man

Roadside Monument - Eight Hours Away From Being a Man
There was a great interview with these guys in Muzzle back in like 1998 that made me love them before I even heard them. Kinda emo, kinda mathy, kinda abrasive, while still kinda subtle.

Good to Go - Counting Stars EP

Good to Go - Counting Stars EP
A poppy punk band from West Chester, PA. They were in a ska band, then kinda morphed into this. They were super energetic live and always fun. The EP is still nostalgic and holds up fairly well.

Daylight - Demo

Daylight - Demo
A pretty new demo from a HWM/Polar Bear Club inspired band. Poppy, yet gruff. They played Philly recently and I missed out, but definitely a band I wanna see live.

Kid Dynamite - Live 4/11/03
A live set from the first round of reunions they did at the Church in Philly. Not the best sounding bootleg, but solid. Relive that weekend, without the SARS.

Atmosphere - When Life Gives You Lemons, Paint That Shit Gold

Atmosphere - When Life Gives You Lemons, Paint That Shit Gold
Indie hip hop. I posted the Slug and Murs record, but this is the mse recent from Slug's main project. A bit more laid back than previous releases, with more musical beats and songs.

A Trunk Full of Dead Bodies - My Smiler, Her Corpse

A Trunk Full of Dead Bodies - My Smile, Her Corpse
Poppy punk with occasional "screamo" parts, but not overly. They kinda overplayed the death thing, but when you got beyond that, there were solid songs here.

Crumbler - Demo

Crumbler - Demo
Snotty, dirty hardcore punk. 5 songs in about 4 minutes. Mems have gone on to Reign Supreme, Aneurysm Rats and others.

Boy Sets Fire - The Day the Sun Went Out

Boy Sets Fire - The Day The Sun Went Out
Another band that's not cool to like anymore, but this record was great. Seeing them at Downingtown High School without a PA system, and Nathan just standing on a chair screaming was one of the best things I'd ever seen at 15-16 years old. Put up by request, so if you have better mp3s, I'd love it. Thanks

Tom Martin Social Club - Live in Portland (Video)

Tom Martin Social Club - Live in Portland (video)
Tom is something of a West Chester "legend" and an all around excellent dude. When he was out doing sound on a tour for Straylight Run (with the New Amsterdams), he ended up doing a brief solo set in Portland. The results were great.

Christ - Only Every Other Day

Christ - Only Every Other Day

The Half-Lings - Possible Discography

The Half-Lings - Possible Discography
I recently found a blog that had most of their 7"s, but this .zip file also contains a bunch of comp tracks I had. I THINK this is everything that was officially released, but I may be wrong. Mid 90s West Chester/Creep Records pop punk at it's best.

Against Me - Acoustic EP

Against Me - Acoustic EP
Sure, it's not cool to like these guys anymore, and a lot of people have already heard this EP, but if you haven't, it's worth it for "We Did it All For Don," which definitely struck a chord with me my senior year of college when I was selling plasma for rent money, hating student teaching 12 hours a day, and enjoying my last semester in a house with my best friends. < / nostalgia>
