The Honor System - Single File
Holy crap, how haven't I posted this already? An overlooked Chicago classic featuring ex-members of The Broadways. When The Lawrence Arms covered these guys a few years ago they said this band featured "the original angry guy with a beard" and that's totally true.

I don't normally post newer releases, particularly from local-ish bands, but this is a band who seems to get overlooked often. Thrashy hardcore punk with political lyrics. Great stuff.

This band got written off too easily because their singer's voice was too poppy, but they were really a progressive, forward-thinking indie rock band doing some awesome stuff. It's a shame more people didn't pay attention.

Deep Elm styled indie rock from members of Cross My Heart and Strike Anywhere. Aside from the one song that sounds like Everclear, this is a truly under-appreciated record.

Folk-punk hero Paul B and Ginger of Good Luck did an acoustic record of Springsteen covers. Not all the best covers, but there are some good fun moments on here. I heard these live shows were really fun.

Ian was a shortlived West Chester band that really took the emotional hardcore/Boy Sets Fire kinda sound. Not too many bands were doing this around WC at the time, but unfortunately, Ian seemed to disappear as quickly as they showed up.

These dudes are a newish indie rock/post hardcore band from Philly not unlike Small Brown Bike and stuff like that .They recently posted their demo on mediafire, but you should totally buy it and go see them because they're great. I'd say all of these nice things even if I wasn't friends with Josh. This is their first release, so it's not perfect, but it's an awesome start and I can't wait to see what they do next. You can check them out here.

When I was 16, my band played some fest in Harrisburg. We got lost getting there, and when we showed up late, all of our friends were raving about some acoustic duo called At This Moment. At the time, we thought it was great. Looking back on it, it's pretty cheesy, but not without it's charms. Acoustic guitars, pianos, probably lots of horn rimmed glasses.
